BLEACHING -
There are two types of bleaching procedures.

At home bleaching trays
Plastic trays are made from impressions taken of the patient's mouth. A bleaching substance is given to the patient which is placed by the patient in the trays every night for three days to a week. Significant whitening is usually seen. The whitening lasts at least a year. It is inexpensive to purchase beach every year or two as it is needed.

In-Office Bleaching
This is done with the new advanced "Zoom" Bleaching Light. It is a two hour procedure in the chair. It is quick and effective, but more expensive. The procedure lasts approximately two years and can be maintained thereafter with bleaching trays or further in-office treatment.

Mini Implants
Are you unable to eat what you want?  Dentures shifting, tilt and wander?  Tired of the taste and feel of messy denture adhesives?  Gums sometimes sore?  Trouble speaking clearly?  Have fear of smiling?

The MDI System consists of a miniature titanium implant that acts like the root of your tooth and a retaining fixture that is incorporated into the base of your denture, The head of the implant is shaped like a ball and the retaining fixture acts like a socket that contains a rubber O-ring. The O-ring snaps over the ball when the denture is seated and holds the denture at a predetermined level of force. When seated, the denture gently rests on the gum tissue. The implant fixtures allow for micro-mobility while withstanding natural lifting forces.

BONDING -
This is an acrylic resin used to fill cavities and broken teeth. It is also used to veneer over teeth as a relatively inexpensive aesthetic procedure. The disadvantage to acrylic is that unlike porcelain it does shrink and wear, and discolors over time.

PORCELAIN VENEERS & CROWNS (CAPS) -
Porcelain is a very beautiful dense substance that does not discolor, shrink, or wear over time. It is harder than natural teeth and maintains its beauty and strength over many years. It is more expensive but is well-worth the cost.

Porcelain can also be used to replace silver fillings and will give a much more aesthetic look and better feel to the teeth.

IMMEDIATE DENTURES
Full or partial removable dentures are a fairly inexpensive method of replacing missing teeth. Denture teeth can be made of porcelain or acrylic. People who have advanced perioodontal disease may lose all or some of their teeth. These teeth can be replaced immediately after extraction so a patient is not embarrassed by having missing teeth.

IMPLANTS
This is a facet of dentistry along with cosmetics that is growing at a very rapid rate. Many people do not want to have removable teeth and so implants are the answer. This is a safe procedure and as long as bone is available in the jaw, they can be placed with a minor surgical procedure. Implants enjoy a high success rate just as hip and knee replacement do.

Prosthetic Dentistry is the specialty that covers all the above procedures. There are only 8 certified Prosthodontists in Rhode Island who are highly trained in all the above procedures.
